ADV tour: Death Valley and the Sierra foothills
Three days through Death Valley, the Mojave Desert and the Sierra foothills, run in March 2026. This is the accessible one: novice through advanced riders, unlike the Sierra and Grand Canyon tours.
Day two puts real distance on dirt roads. Riders who would rather not can take an alternate paved route around the north side of Death Valley and rejoin the group at Alabama Hills, which is a sensible way to run a mixed-ability tour rather than pretending everyone is comfortable on gravel.
What it involves
- Three days, still 300 to 400 miles a day.
- An adventure bike helps on day two. If you are unsure whether yours is suitable, ask before you sign up.
- March is chosen for temperature. Death Valley in summer is not a group-ride destination.
- If you have never ridden dirt, this is a gentler introduction than it sounds, and the paved alternative exists for a reason.

Before you sign up
ADV tours are members-only and they are not the place to find out how you feel after six hours in the saddle. If you have not done one of the long day rides yet, start there. Nobody minds, and it is a much better way to learn what your bike and your back are good for.
